    Introduction

Aloe Vera has been used for centuries and is currently more popular than ever.  It is cultivated worldwide. “Aloe gel,” which comes from the leaf of Aloe Vera is commonly used in skin care products.  A study published in the Indian Journal of Dermatology said that in ancient Egypt, they called Aloe Vera “that plant of immortality.”  They also said that Aloe Vera  has been used therapeutically in cosmetics for many centuries in China, Japan, India, Greece, Egypt, Mexico, and Japan.  The earliest record of a human use for Aloe Vera comes from the ebers Papyrus (an Egyptian medical record) from the 16th century BC.

Aloe Vera is widely used  in: Food-as a flavoring, Cosmetics, Food supplements, and Herbal remedies.  Aloe Vera is used as a medicinal herb.  It nourishes the body and it has healing powers and boosts immunity. It is also rich in nutrients and improves digestion.  The Aloe Vera gel can be used to enhance skin, especially the face and the hair.

Aloe Vera can be used as an aftershave-treatment as well. This is because it helps to keep the skin hydrated. Aloe Vera gel is also known to relieve sunburn and help heal wounds.

How do they extract the gel from the leaf? Let’s have a look at it.

Cut down from its bottom, selecting fatter leaves or stems and cut it from the base or pull the leaves. Be careful as the plant has thorns.

Use a sharp knife to slice the thorns from the edge of each leaf.  Sliced the stalk  into half and kept the gel side up. Using a spoon scrape the gel out and put it into a container. Once the gel is extracted, the gel can be refrigerated.
