All the way from the sacred Himalayas with you in mind……
Let’s explore the benefits of Himalayan pink salts. What are these beautiful pink crystals? What’s the difference from that of a normal cooking salt? What is the fashion hype about these Himalayan salts and why bother even using it?
Intro
There are so many varieties of salts now available in the global market. Out of the many, these Himalayan rock salts have gained huge popularity among consumers due to their diverse nutritional and medicinal properties. There are two types of Himalayan rock salts. One is the Himalayan pink salt and the other one is Himalayan black salt. However less is known about the black salt.1
Sanskrit to the Indians is akin to Latin to the Europeans. Himalayas or the himalaya comes from the sanskrit word hima = snow and alaya = temple, a resting place of quietness. The Himalayas is the name of one of the mountain range in south and east of Asia. The Himalayan salt comes from this region but not exactly from this mountain range itself. It actually comes from the mines of the Punjab region of Pakistan, which is rather close to Islamabad.
These Himalayan salt mines are dated to even before prehistoric man existed. Therefore, these pink salts do not have traces of human imprints ie microplastics in them. This itself elevates the healthiness aspect of the Himalayan salt as a study has shown that table salt could have up to 90% microplastics.2
Research has also shown that the Himalayan pink salts contain a variety of essential nutrients such as iron, zinc, magnesium and calcium. Thus, from the consumption perspective, it is therefore far superior nutritionally to the white salt. 3
In addition because there isn’t any microplastic adulteration in these salts, they are much more favorable to the endocrine system and the stomach.
Uses and benefits
How about it’s uses for skin care?
There is plenty of qualitative and anecdotal evidence but less quantitative evidence about the effects of these on skin care. Salt has antimicrobial properties. So by virtue of its class, Himalayan salts have antimicrobial properties as well. There was also increasing qualitative evidence that Himalayan salts are beneficial for treating acne. Due to their excellent moisture retention properties their effect on people with psoriasis and eczema is also soothing and relaxing. In addition, Himalayan salts have helped to reduce scaling, redness, itchiness and irritation.
Baths, rich in minerals have been helpful for people with psoriasis and eczema. This goes back to many eras actually. Bathing with salts have been used historically for deep cleansing of the body. Himalayan salts which have a rich mineral composition3 are perfect for such usage.
