Most of us are familiar with the iconic Ceylon tea.  It comes from the current day, Sri Lanka, a small island off the Indian Ocean.  Sri Lanka is a paradise on Earth, as the travelers amongst us can attest to.  The natural resources and  outstanding beauty of sun, sea, and mountains, coupled with the culture and cuisine, make it a dream destination for many. Unfortunately, even amongst all this outstanding natural beauty, everything is not as idyllic as it appears…….

Sri Lanka has been devastated by decades of Civil war which raged from 1986 to 2009.  Thus begins Aram’s story……

Aram was formed using a Community Development Grant a few years ago in order to uplift the local community of Northern, Sri Lanka.  A lot of the people from this area are farmers.  They don’t have pensions.  They work even in their old age.  This area was particularly known for the Civil War devastation – the Mullivaikkal Massacre took place here in the final days of the Sri Lankan Civil War. So a significant number of families are still greatly impacted.  Many have lost their loved ones and are single mothers and fathers. A number of elderly folk have been abandoned as their children have died or have incurred injuries as a result of the war.  There are a large number of orphaned children.  The workers and those involved in Aram came from such families.

Go Eco Love sources a number of hand made products (cards, plant made boxes) from Aram and we support them with our profits.  So there is a dual gain for this organization: we buy and we give back.   We hope that as we grow we can help make a positive impact on organizations such as these. 

The community grant supervised by the Ministry of Environment initially targeted micro organization development. Fortunately Aram was one of the success stories. There are many who still struggle and require all our help.
